Things to Make and Do

Things to do on a Saturday

April26

You could go to a fabric market with a friend…

… and buy a whole lot of stuff

You could hang out in Tony’s  yard ….

… and play Tuna’s favorite game: catch the rubber spider.

The Dutch Fabric Market was awesome! For the German readers, here are the future dates for other cities. I was totally overwhelmed with all the fabric and in the end both of us bought more fabric for garment sewing than for bag making, which was really weird. My luckiest find was Freezer Paper! This may sound strange, but you just can’t get this in Germany. I spend way too much money considering I still need to shop the U.S. online stores. Exhausted but really happy, I went back to Tony’s to play a little bit of “catch the rubber spider”. Okay, Tony played and I took the pictures but from Tuna’s point of view it doesn’t matter as long as someone throws her spider :)

I need shopping help!!

April24

Ladies, I need your help: A colleague of mine is going to the States in two weeks and I can order some stuff online that will be shipped to his sister in law. Normally I order from Etsy so I’m not really familiar with any other good online fabric stores. I’m mainly looking for pretty solids and linens, any brand name and online store suggestion would help. Oh and are there any crafting and sewing magazines I can’t live without?

I’ve been tagged

March11

The lovely Anita from Bake and Sew tagged me and gave me this:

Thanks so much Anita, I really enjoy reading your blog too! Especially because I really like everything crochet but have no idea how to do it :) Part of the deal is to list 5 addictions so here we go:

1. Coffee and cigarettes. I’m sorry to say this but I’m a chain smoker :( And some of the great moments of my life went a long with a cup of coffee and a cigarette. Like the first time I was in NY, walking down the street at New Years with a cup of coffee, a cigarette, sunshine, blue sky and someone  playing “Take Five” in an appartment with an open window.

2. Cute and fury things. I’m totally addicted to ICanHasCheezburger and Cuteoverload. I have to check out the sites at least once a day, and you should hear me squeak if I see a cat, or anything else that is remotely cute and fury in real life. And I would LOVE to have a raccoon in addition to 20 cats!

3. Books. I don’t love books I NEED them! I’m constantly reading and as soon as I don’t have a new book I get really jittery and HAVE to order something from Amazon. It didn’t help that I started sewing, even more books to buy.

4. Sewing. I sew in my head. At night. In the office. On the tram. It drives me crazy sometimes

5. The Two Ts. Tony and Tuna. They drive me crazy sometimes but I just love them to bits.

Well, I think you now know a little more about me than you should, and that’s why I have to tag 5 of you so I don’t feel so exposed :) Here we go:

Staci and her Notebook, because she was one of the first to welcomed me in the blogging world and I adore the things she makes.

Paloma and the Three Kitchen Fairies,  because she is one of the nicest people out there, takes beautiful pictures and has the cutest fairies :)

Sina from Erase and Repeat, because it’s good to know that there is somebody else sitting with a bowl of cereals on the other side of the world. Oh and she makes the lushest fabric flowers ever!

Mal from turning*turning, because her blog makes me think about why I craft. Truly inspirational.

Karen from Craftermath, because she’s a crazy bag addict and always has the coolest fabric

I’m officially crazy…

March3

…because yesterday I bought a 60 year old sewing machine! I went to the thrift store to look for a small drawer and found one. But when I opened it, it wasn’t a drawer but a sewing machine! A Pfaff 30 to be exact.

My first thought was: I need this! My second one: what the hell am I gonna do with it? And then it went like this: Maybe I could use it for all the stiff layers and leather? How does this work? Where the hell is the bobbin? Oh found it. Nah it’s too big, I don’t have enough space for that monster. Oh look, pinking shears!

And that was that. The pinking shears sealed the deal, because the last time I went to buy some I was to cheap to spent the 30 Euros, and now I could have them together with a SEWING MACHINE for 30 Euros.

And not only that, but a lot of threads, measuring tape, needles, chalk, a manual (thank you) and some buttons. Now I only have to clean the whole thing, oil it up and figure out how it works. Did I mention that it doesn’t have a motor and there are 12 steps to thread this thing? :)

If you want to see more of the craziness, click here and head over to flickr for a few more shots.

Oh the prettiness!

February23

A few weeks ago I stumbled over this on flickr, and after I found out that these were pendants in the making, I just had to order one the minute I saw the finished product. Two weeks ago it arrived and it was so pretty I couldn’t wait to wear it, and since I was in the office and didn’t have a necklace I just used the ribbon around the box. Well, 4 hours later I got home and it was gone. Somehow it fell off and I was soooo angry with myself you wouldn’t believe. I checked my office, called my yoga teacher - nothing. You should have seen me trying to kick my own butt. I really fell in love with it so I ordered another one, and here it is:

I just love the whole idea of it: the rolled card stock and that she used her drawings as an inspiration. Check out nfall2rt’s Etsy shop and her blog for even more prettiness.

Wanna see heaven?

January22

I just had to post this. This was one of my birthday presents: big fat Lush package. If you girls don’t know what I’m talking about head over to their website and check if they have a store in your country and if they do, you HAVE to buy something. Everything is handmade and smells incredible! So if you’ll excuse me, I have to take a bath :)
